NARPO – The voice of retired police officers
NARPO – The voice of retired police officers

An Early Day Motion has been tabled in Parliament in support of NARPO’s Love or Money Campaign, which seeks to end the long standing injustice faced by police widows, widowers and surviving partners affected by the Police Pension Regulations 1987. The campaign calls for changes to the regulations that currently result in some surviving partners losing their pension entitlement if they remarry, enter into a civil partnership, or cohabit with a new partner. For those who have already experienced the loss of a loved one who served the public as a police officer, this creates an unfair choice between financial security and the opportunity to rebuild their lives.

The EDM highlights this issue and calls on the Government to bring the position in England and Wales into line with the protections already available in Northern Ireland and for Armed Forces families. Members can play an important role in supporting the campaign by contacting their local MP and encouraging them to sign the EDM and raise the matter in Parliament. To assist with this, template letters and emails are now available for members wishing to write to their MP. You can find these below.
