About St Helens Branch

The St Helens Branch is one of four serving the Merseyside police area with a current membership of over 450 members plus 60 widows. We are a vibrant branch with an active committee.

The branch membership, which extends worldwide, has more than doubled since some of the members of the current committee took the reins in the noughties and continues to grow. Our members comprise those who served in St Helens Borough, Lancs County and Merseyside police plus associate members. Those who served in Merseyside but live locally, welcome the opportunity to socialise locally.

We warmly welcome new members and those who wish to transfer to their local branch. The branch has dedicated welfare officers to promote our core values of looking after our own. They regularly carry out home, hospital and care home visits, with particular emphasis on those over 80 years old.

Key Information About The Branch

Contact with the membership is maintained through a Newsletter circulated 4/5 times annually, e-mail, our own website and a closed Facebook Group. The branch organises an annual holiday for its members, in the past visiting Scotland, the Isle of Man and the Isle of Wight. There is a Christmas party, Spring social event and an Afternoon Tea all of which use the the venue at Bishop Road police club in St Helens and heavily subsidised for members. This venue also hosts our AGM, with regular attendances of over 100 members (20% of the membership), enjoying free drinks, invited speakers and a locally made hotpot of the highest quality.
