NARPO – The voice of retired police officers

NARPO is pleased to support the research project, outlined below.

I am compiling research for my dissertation Representation in Police Leadership: does race influence the appointment of senior police leaders within UK police forces.

The overall aim of my research is to understand why there is a comparatively low proportion of Black and Asian officers in senior rank positions (ACC and above) in policing.

To determine if race is an influencing factor in selection processes, and how racial underrepresentation impacts on society. I also need to understand what the barriers are perceptual or otherwise for officers seeking promotion to the highest ranks.

I am therefore wanting to gather research from retired officers that may assist with my research. I would welcome contact from Black or Asian members that have reached the rank of Chief Inspector or above and would like to participate in my research, that may be by conducting a short survey or where possible a short informal interview.

Any participation will be completely confidential and taken voluntarily, whether that be survey or interview and all data will be only held for as long as research is ongoing and necessary.

Please could any willing members contact me at the below e-mail address
