Sunderland Branch
Sunderland Branch
We have a membership of about 250 comprising of former officers of the Sunderland Borough, Durham Constabulary and currently Northumbria Police Forces. The Division, now Command Area, covers Sunderland Central, North,West and South, Washington and Houghton le Spring serving a population of approximately 275,000. The branch meets quarterly on the first Tuesday of the following months, February, May, August and November with the Annual General Meeting (AGM) being held in February when the branch officials are elected; the meetings are held in Sunderland. The branch officials endeavour to secure a guest speaker at these meetings to supplement the official Narpo Agenda. The feedback concerning previous speakers, who have come from a variety of backgrounds, has been overwhelmingly positive and is now a regular feature. We also hold an annual Christmas Dinner/Social Evening in December which is well attended by members and their partners. Once per month, in order to address their wellbeing, members gather at The Beacon of Light to partake in a variety of sports on a pre-booked court, some just attend as spectators. They also gather for a coffee and sandwich before and after activities for a catch up and general craic. The branch is always trying to recruit new members, so retired officers who are non-members are invited to attend any branch meeting or The Beacon as a 'taster'. Alternatively, in the first instance, they should contact the branch secretary for further information.
