Job Title: Head School Keeper
Hours of Work: 37.5 hour per week Shift work between 6am and 10pm. Providing additional cover at weekends as required. Due to the nature of the role, this post comes with regular additional overtime which must be covered within the team.
Reports to: Head of Facilities
The Headmaster and CEO of Eltham College family of schools seeks to appoint a Head School Keeper, to join our passionate and dedicated team at Eltham College. The Head School Keeper is responsible for the supervision and deployment of the team of School Keepers, in addition to supporting the Head of Facilities in the general care, maintenance and upkeep of the school site and facilities, along with portering and overseeing day-to-day security functions. This is a key role in ensuring the School is presented at its best at all times.
Main Duties
The expected duties include:
· Recruiting, supervising, training and line management of School Keepers to ensure that appropriate cover and skills are available at all times.
· Oversight of Faultfixers and online systems such as School Calendar to organise the deployment of School Keepers to ensure that all relevant tasks are undertaken in an effective and efficient manner.
· Maintaining team files – rota and duty cover, overtime, managing AL and SL records and individual risk assessments. Being ‘on call’ in the absence of the Duty School Keeper; and remaining contactable in the event of an emergency
· Maintaining departmental Risk Assessment registers including COSHH
· Maintaining Log of fire alarm testing and water flushing
· Management of the Deliveries Lodge and distribution of goods and materials delivered to the school.
· Organising the deployment of School Keepers to manage the main car park during drop off and collection times Supporting the Cleaning Manager with opening of the school site and buildings and ensuring that the school is secured at the end of the day, including any events taking place outside of normal school hours.
· Being responsible for the distribution of keys, maintaining a register of such and ensuring that sufficient keys are available; organising for locks to be changed if required.
· Responding to alarms (daytime and out of hours) and liaison with engineers.
· Attendance at weekly Event meetings, termly Health and Safety Committee meetings and termly Calendar meetings
· Providing reports as required including termly School Keeper Health and Safety report
· Supporting other sites within the Family of Schools as required on the request of the Head of Facilities
· Moving furniture and other equipment on request, including the set up and take down of furniture and other resources for meetings and internal events
· Event management including Duty Management and set up/down for external functions
· Liaison with all school departments and supporting as requested
· Supporting Students and parents with requests
· Management of contract for disposal of general waste and recycling bins
· Checking of Quads and JS playground each morning to ensure they are clear of rubbish, litter and any animal excrements
· Undertaking cleaning, removing litter and clearing of rubbish from site as required
· Undertaking routine patrols of the site in order to identify security, maintenance or other issues, reporting to the Head of Facilities or the Head of Maintenance as appropriate.
· Undertaking routine minor maintenance tasks and supporting the maintenance team with larger tasks
· Assisting with pest control measures

Eltham College is a highly successful independent day school in south-east London, educating boys and girls aged 7 to 18 across both Junior and Senior Schools. The College has grown considerably over recent years: there are now over 800 students in the Senior School and around 260 pupils in the Junior School and places are heavily oversubscribed.
